Steps where your project gets delayed

Research scholars often feel the heat to complete their projects on time. It is not hard to imagine why there is such a pressure. The deadlines are often decided in advance and the scholars face some problem or the other while finishing the study. The situation is never ideal. Here are some points where you can get delayed- (Make note and watch out for them)

  • Clearing the proposal: writing the proposal may take more time than you imagined. After all, it is not that brief and has quite a few elements. Even if you are able to finish a decent proposal in time and are happy with your work, your committee may feel otherwise, and ask you to make some changes. Completing the revisions and going through proposal presentation a second time will certainly waste a lot of time.
  • Getting data: if you need data for a quantitative study, you will have to prepare a questionnaire, select people who fit the profile and ask them for information. The respondents may not be quick enough, or ready to share data. Then, you will have to find alternative sources. Even if you are lucky, reaching so many people and getting data that represents the population is going to be time taking.
  • Data analysis: if you are not a genius, then in all probability you will not get your data analysis right in the first attempt. You will have to prepare a number of tables and modules, and revise them for errors.
  • Documentation: Making sense of all the data, putting it in a clear format, writing down the results and narrating your case will take not less than a week. Write the chapters that you find easy first, just to get into the habit of writing. If you start with the tough ones, you will waste more time thinking.

So, now that you know when to watch out for delays, your probability of completing the work on time goes up.
